Biography

Carlos Alberto Tevez, born February 5, 1984 in Buenos Aires, is an Argentine footballer and plays currently as a striker at Manchester City. Engaged by Boca Juniors when he was 16 years, “Carlitos” plays his first game with the pros in 2001. The titles add up quickly for this player from the slums of Buenos Aires, including the Copa Libertadores 2003 (equivalent of Champions League) where Tevez plays a key role.

The doors of the selection of Argentina opened to him and in 2004 he signed a double by winning the Olympic tournament, he finished top scorer with 8 goals in 6 games, then the Copa America. Compared to Maradona for his size, its control and perceptive passing game, the young man has not disappointed.

During his first game with the Pros he played against Talleres de Cordoba. After a successful campaign with Boca Juniors where he scored 26 goals in 75 matches, he decided to join Corinthians after the club’s deal with Media Sports Investment, which holds Tevez, rights. He was named the best Brazilian League player- which has not been awarded to any foreign player since 1976.

During his time in Brazil he scored 20 goals in 29 matches and finishes the season at the 3rd place in the goalscoring charts. However on 31 August 2006 he was transferred to West Ham United in England together with his fellow countrymen Javier Mascherano. This was quite suprising given that all experts were thinking that Tevez will end up in a more prestigious side. However the media revealed that some big teams refused to sign Carlos Tevez because of the stipulations that were in place with Media Sports Investment.

Tevez made his debut with West Ham as a substitute against Aston Villa on 10 September 2006 in a game that ended in a 1-1 draw. He scored his first goal for West Ham in March 2007 in a game against Tottenham.

In June 2007 Tevez rejected a move to Inter Milan and instead opted to go for Manchester United which sparked a controversy between West Ham and Media Sports Investment when it comes to the players rights. He debuted for Man Utd against Portsmouth on the 15 August and scored his first goal a month later in a 2-0 win against Chelsea.

He also scored 5 goals in the Champions League for Manchester United and helped the team won the final against Chelsea.

He left the club in 2009 because of his playing time that he deems inadequate. On July 13, 2009 he signed a 5-year contract with Manchester City and a record transfer fee of $ 54 million. He scored his first goal for his new club in the League Cup against Crystal Palace.

Tevez has played for Argentina 58 times during which he has scored 11 goals.  He won the 2004 Olympic Gold medal in a competition where he scored 8 times. He has also represented Argentina in the 2006 World Cup in Germany and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
